NATURAL PENNSYLVANIA FIELDSTONE
Fieldstone is stone harvested from the fields and forests as it naturally comes. It is weathered from the elements. It tends to have rounder edges. It comes in a large variety of colors, shapes, sizes, and textures, depending on the area it comes from, and the composition. It can be thin and flattish, or round, or somewhere in between. Fieldstone is a natural product. Each stone is unique; there are no two fieldstones exactly alike. Fieldstone can be used in a variety of landscaping projects, from benches and tables, to walkways, garden ponds, waterfalls, natural borders, and many more areas. PENNSYLVANIA QUARRY STONE / FLAGSTONE
Flagstone is extracted from a quarry. The topsoil is removed, and the stone underneath is blasted to get the good quality quarry stone. Stand-up irregular and colonial are obtained by using a skid steer to split the natural occuring seams in the stone. The edges of stand-up & colonial are broken, which is why stand-up is sometimes called broken or irregular, and also why it tends to have sharper edges. The pattern stone is cut with a stone saw in blocks which are then split with a stone chisel into thicknesses determined by the naturally occurring seams in the stone. Pattern has four cut sides & the top & bottom are split. Thermal stone is cut with large stone saws from giant blocks. It has all six sides cut, which allows it to be cut to almost any specification. Quarry stone is generally flat and more consistent in thickness and color. In Pennsylvania quarry stone generally comes in full color, lilac, and the Pennsylvania Bluestone that Pa. is famous for. SPECIALTY STONE
Here at Stone Stackers we are always looking for special, unique, or unusual stone. We find natural stone bridges, natural stone benches, natural stone seating for fire rings, and other natural stone projects. We occasionally have an old hand-cut quarry site. These have Antique Colonial stone, which is more consistent in thickness like colonial, but weathered and darkened from the elements. Due to the variety of sites we maintain, we have an access to a large variety of unique shapes and sizes. We do special orders, and have done several large projects, one consisting of 300 boulders weighing 3500lbs.- 10,000lbs. per boulder! There is no project too big or too small. If you have an idea in mind, send us an e-mail and we'll see what we can find. We also have access to fine imported granite orbs and beautiful S-shaped benches. They are imported from China, and a beautiful addition to any garden.
